Lin self-consciously breaches and intermingles the conventions of fine print and the book format. While a print is generally viewed only from the front, behind glass and from a distance, a book is handled directly; the reader physically touches the pages and engages with the book structure. By repeatedly presenting the same image on framed pages, "Re-presentation" exposes and exaggerates aspects of the interiority of printmaking normally kept well out of sight.
Lin
came to printmaking through the artist's book. Her work is usually concept
led and influenced by her multidisciplinary background. Her artist's books
are held in numerous public and private collections.
In 2007 Lin completed a Creative Embroidery diploma and has developed an interest in printing on to and from stitched surfaces. "Re-presentations" includes printing on to silk and muslins, as well as handmade and tissue papers.
Lin is a founder member of the group "Faction" (www.faction.org.uk). She runs Book Arts workshops, including at the Sidney Nolan Trust.
