Printmaking @ The Sidney Nolan Trust

Book Arts

The book arts group at The Sidney Nolan Trust has taken part successfully in national artist's book events: the Manchester Book Arts Fair; the Bristol Artist’s Book Event and events in Walsall, Cirencester and in Knighton.  As well as selling a number of books, group members have made valuable contacts and got our name on the map.

Our focus on artist's books will continue in 2011. We are fortunate to have assistance from Lin Charlston, an experienced book artist with work in major public collections in the UK and USA and also a founder member of the group Faction.  Lin will be running more workshops and seminars on book arts themes. Members of the group will again be producing new book arts work for display in the tithe barn  alongside the h.Art printmaking exhibition 10-18 September2011. We are lucky to have the space to run book arts displays side by side with our printmaking exhibitions. Each enhances the other, not least in the eyes of our visitors.

The Trust's aim has been to challenge printmakers to move beyond their comfort zones; to explore an exciting new medium; and to expand and develop their fine art practices. We have successfully encouraged participation not only by existing printmakers but by newcomers to the Trust’s work. If you want to join in or know anyone who does, get in touch.

Public Exhibitions

A staggering total of 42 artists' books were displayed in the Tithe Barn gallery during Herefordshire Art Week (h.Art), 10 - 19 September 2010, alongside the fine art printmaking show.

We have taken a table at the Bristol Artists Book Event, 30 April - 1 May 2011.  Members are invited to submit work for this.  More details in due course.

There will be exhibition opportunities of book arts during the h.Art exhibition from 10 - 18 September 2011.

Australia book artist and printmaker Jan Melville will be visiting from our partner studio at Warringah during h.Art 2011 and running workshops on altered books and on assemblage.
