"Standing Wood"

Solar plate (photopolymer) print

Ed.5, 138 x 186mm

Framed £65
Unframed £50

Standing Wood A solar plate made using the single exposure intaglio method.  Exposed for 4 minutes on a bright, sunny late Winter day.

Drawn on True Grain film, using a variety of pens, pencil, charcoal & graphite.

The semi-opaque textures of the pencil, charcoal and graphite created little more than roughness on the photopolymer surface.  Yet these retained sufficient ink to print a light, broken grey, contrasting with the heavier blacks of the ink lines.  The heaviest areas (e.g. the edges ot the wooden planks) were cross-hatched

Some areas of the plate washed out more than I had originally intended.  Serendipity decided that these areas should be where highlights might reasonably be expected!
